Ginger cat Ziggy was found in a dreadful state in Strood, but is now looking for a new owner

Abandoned cat Ziggy was found in a dreadful condition in Strood.

He had been straying since his owners moved away over a year ago and left him behind to fend for himself.

Although handsome, he was thin, full of fleas and his fur was so badly matted that a lot of it had to be shaved off.

His fosterer Bobby Bajwa said: “Ziggy also suffered from infected and bleeding gums, making it difficult and painful for him to eat.

Our vet extracted 14 of Ziggy’s teeth, which brought him instant relief - he now enjoys eating.

“Ziggy’s gum infection has not quite healed up and our vet suspects that he has a mild form of calicivirus.

This is currently being treated with medication, which gets squirted onto his gums on a daily basis.

Ziggy is looking for a new home.
Ziggy is looking for a new home.

Ziggy is very good with this and if a new owner is prepared to carry on with the treatment, Ziggy can be rehomed.

“The treatment, which is fully paid by Anim-Mates, will carry on for around 100 days.

Anim-Mates will also pay for any future gum-related treatments, should Ziggy need them.

Calicivirus doesn’t necessarily get spread to other cats but it might be better for Ziggy to be the only cat in a home.

“Ziggy, who is about eight years old, is a friendly, gentle and affectionate cat who has stolen the heart of everyone who has met him.

He is also very playful.

“To prevent his fur from matting in future, Ziggy will need to be regularly brushed, which is something he really enjoys.”

Ziggy, who is generally very healthy has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and flea and worm treated.

If you can offer Ziggy a home, call Bobbie on 07808 625519.

Anim-Mates is a volunteer-run animal rescue group based in Ash.
