A young man was taken to hospital last night after a car crash at a busy junction in Gillingham.

The male, whose age is not known, was one of four people in a Vauxhall Corsa when it hit a Honda Civic at the junction of the A2 Watling Street and Rock Avenue at 10.30pm.

Police closed the road and put a diversion in place for more than an hour.

Medway firefighters used cutting equipment to remove the top of the Corsa and retrieve the victim, who had neck, chest and abdominal pain.

Ambulance crews strapped him to a spinal board as a precaution and took him to Medway Maritime Hospital.

The other three passengers, and the driver of the Civic, were not thought to have been hurt.

Police are investigating what caused the crash.
