Chatham boss Alex O’Brien does not expect his future to be confirmed until later this month.

O’Brien (pictured) led Chatham to 17th place in Ryman League, Division 1 South during his first season in charge at Maidstone Road and chairman Jeff Talbot hinted last month that he will be given a second campaign at the helm.

However, he insisted that he wants certain guarantees from the club before he commits to next season.

"We’ve had a chat," revealed O’Brien. "There were a few things that me and (assistant manager) Lew Watts need for next year.

"Training facilities is one of those things. We’re talking all the time but we do need some guarantee.

"That’s not an excuse but there are little things that need to be addressed. We’re already working out pre-season but we’ll know more after the presentation evening on May 14."

O’Brien also admitted that he was left frustrated by the club’s small budget as he tried to strengthen his squad in a bid to improve their form, which saw them win just three of their last 17 matches.

"People are saying why didn’t you sign someone?" said O’Brien. "But I tried to sign two players from the Kent League and they both said they were on £200 a week – that’s an absolute joke.

"It’s okay saying do this and that but it’s not always as easy as that. It’s not all doom and gloom, though. When we did train Tuesday and Thursday, we were winning games and picking up points."
