Medway County Court in Chatham shuts after exterminators called in

Exterminators had to be called after reports of a “bug infestation” at a court.

They were seen yesterday afternoon at Medway County Court, which uses part of Medway Council’s headquarters at Gun Wharf, Chatham.

People reported being made to wait outside the court area and were told they could not enter the premises.

The court was briefly closed while exterminators were called in. It reopened at 2pm.

Affected hearings have been re-listed at the earliest available date.

A spokesman for His Majesty’s Courts and Tribunals Services said: “The issue was swiftly resolved and court resumed as normal at 2pm.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

It is understood the problem was confined to the court and did not impact areas occupied by council staff.
