Crash in Lower Rainham Road

An elderly man is in a serious condition in a London hospital after being knocked over by a car in Lower Rainham Road yesterday.

The man, who has not been named, but is in his late 70s and thought to be from Gillingham, was injured at about 12.20pm when he was hit by a sliver Chevrolet Aveo.

The casualty was airlifted to King's College Hospital with limb and head injuries.

The road was closed for several hours while crash investigators examined the scene of the collision.

A spokesman for Medway Police said: "The man is in a serious condition, but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

"Anyone who saw the collision is asked to call Kent Police’s serious crash investigation unit."

The road was re-opened at 4.45pm.
