Drive-thru Costa Coffee plan for Medway City Estate back on the table

Plans for a Costa Coffee drive-thru on an industrial estate are back on the table.

Last year, Medway Council turned down the plans for the Medway City Estate in Strood.

But Southfleet-based Goldex Investments Ltd has now re-submitted its plans which also include a warehouse for storing classic cars

In the authority's decision published in June, the council's planning department said it was concerned about the safety of the access route and loss of habitat at Whitewall Creek, which is close to the Co-op petrol garage and McDonald's.

The updated plans include a pedestrian footpath in order to address the council's concerns about people moving around the site on foot.

The authority also said the site is close to a waste water treatment site which may cause an issue in terms of the odour from the site, but the developers have submitted an odour survey showing it would not significantly impact customers.

If it goes ahead, the Costa will be open between 8am and 6pm daily.

It would be accessed via Terance Butler Avenue, which leads on to the McDonald's and Co-op.

The plans are due to be decided on by Wednesday, May 24.
