They were taking part in a campaign called the Queen's Green Canopy which aims to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee”.

The Woodland Trust provided 135 trees which were partially subsidised by local councillor's ward funds.

Pupils planted their trees in Rainham Recreation Ground and Conzenton Park.

Ward councillor Martin Potter (Con), who is also the climate change lead at Medway Council, said: "The pupils worked really hard and it was wonderful to see them so excited to contribute to their community and the climate change agenda.

"There was also an educational focus to their involvement with the pupils not only learning how to plant a tree but also with a focus on why we use certain techniques and how the trees will develop supporting climate change efforts and biodiversity.

"We are continuing to work with Medway Council and local schools on planting more trees on sites elsewhere in Rainham."
