The girl was thought to be crossing Watling Street (A2) when the accident happened.

Motorists were being urged to find alternative routes and the road re-opened at about noon.

A spokesman for Kent Police said: “Kent Police was called at 8.45am to a report of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian in Watling Street, at the junction with Rede Court Road.

“The road is currently closed. The pedestrian, a girl thought to be aged 12, has been taken to a London hospital.
