The plans put forward by the council include removing an existing disused building and constructing two blocks which will be three storeys high and will have nine flats in each.

One of the blocks was originally planned to be four storeys high which lead councillors to ask the council to re-think their plans.

The development will also include solar panelling and spaces for 24 cars, most of which will include electric vehicle charging points.

Head of planning, Dave Harris, told a meeting of the planning committee last night (Wednesday, April 19) the scheme will provide "very much needed" affordable homes.

The site - close to the junction with Beatty Avenue - neighbours many amenities including a surgery, primary school, a day centre for the elderly, and a pharmacy.
