A teacher has appeared in court following allegations he had a relationship with a former pupil.

Mark Spendley, 36, is accused of two counts of abuse of a position of trust following months of investigations by police.

The allegations first came to light in March last year, and he was suspended from his job at The Hundred of Hoo School.

The girl, who is no longer a pupil at the Main Road school in Hoo, is said to have had a sexual relationship with the media teacher.

Spendley, of High Street, Queenborough, Isle of Sheppey, appeared before magistrates in Medway today, (March 5) where the case against him was adjourned.

He will next appear at the same court on Monday, April 30, where the case against him is expected to be committed to the crown court.

Spendley did not enter a plea in relation to the charges.
