A school has banned false eyelashes, fake tan, heavy foundation and lipstick.
In a letter to parents, headteacher of the Hundred of Hoo Academy Gary Vyse told parents "school is not a fashion parade" and accused some of failing to support their children by allowing them to come to school in fake tan and makeup.
Mr Vyse wrote: "A school is not a fashion parade. There are, however, far reaching corners of our community who are not being supportive of their child by allowing them to arrive at the academy in makeup, which includes heavily drawn on eyebrows, heavy foundation, bronzer, fake tan, lipstick and false eyelashes."
From September 1, pupils caught flouting the new rules will face disciplinary measures, according to Mr Vyse.
He warned: “I ask parents to not be surprised if your child is sanctioned for the above.”
Mr Vyse appealed to parents to support the decision, and said he favoured "no excuses discipline."
He wrote: “No excuses discipline is not to be parodied as a cruel heartless system administered by ogres or monsters that do not care about children,” he said. “In fact nothing could be further from the truth.
“If we truly care for our children, ‘no excuses discipline’ is in fact, the best available option to them.
He added: “In choosing your child to learn at the Hundred of Hoo Academy you do so in understanding the academy’s code of conduct, and you support the academy’s issuing of sanctions.”
The academy has been rated ‘good’ in all categories with “outstanding features” in the latest Ofsted inspectors’ report.
What do you think? Is the school right to impose the ban?
