Officers were called to the scene at 4am on Saturday, and closed the road until 7am while investigations were carried out.

Later that day, a 41-year-old man from Sheerness was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving, dangerous driving, and failing to stop at the scene and report an accident.

He has been bailed until October 16 pending further enquiries.

Officers are now appealing for anyone who saw the crash or saw a silver car in the area at the time to contact police.

Witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact PC Kelly Tindall at Kent Police on 01634 792209 and quote incident reference 08-230.
