Medway and Maidstone athletes in the medals at the Kent Schools Championships in Ashford

The Kent Schools Championships at the Julie Rose Stadium, Ashford on Saturday produced a number of medal- winning performances by athletes representing Medway or Maidstone schools districts.

Nicola Keegan (Medway, 13.5sec) fought through to the final in the inter girls’ 100m for a bronze and Sophie Ayre (Maidstone, 13.2) was also third in the junior 100m. Katie White (Medway, 13.8) won the Year 7 girls’ 100m sprint.

Ayre (pictured left) also enjoyed wins in the junior 75m hurdles and the junior long jump.

At 200m, there was silver for White (Medway, 28.6) and bronze for Rachel Laqeretabua (Maidstone, 29.3) in the Year 7 girls’ race and silver for Lewis Heffernan (Medway, 30.1) in the Year 7 boys’ final.

At 400m, the gold went to Lloyd Milner (Medway, 56.2) in the junior boys’ race.

The 800m races saw a win for Alex Kidd (Maidstone, 2min21.3sec) in the Year 7 final with Aaron Barnes (Maidstone, 2.28.3) third. Jayne Mallyon (Maidstone, 2.26.5) was third in the junior girls’ race.

Pandora Banbury (Maidstone, 5.02.1) was second in the junior girls and Adam Gilbert (Medway, 4.25.5) was third in the inter boys’ 1,500m race. Stephen Jones gained another bronze in the Year 7 boys’ 1,500m.
