Strood: Roadworks chaos at busy junction

Drivers are facing traffic chaos following the start of roadworks at a busy junction.

Temporary traffic lights are in place at the junction of Frindsbury Road and Station Road in Strood, due to work being carried out by UK Power Networks to repair a faulty cable.

Only one lane is in use on Station Road at the junction and lengthy tailbacks have formed on Frindsbury Road last night and this morning.

Work began yesterday and is scheduled to continue until Wednesday June 13 - although workers at the scene say cable repairs have been completed and work to repair the road is likely to be completed this week.

A statement from UK Power Networks said: "Our engineers worked as quickly as possible to repair to an underground cable in Frindsbury Road and Station Road, in Strood, to ensure reliable electricity supplies for local homes and businesses.

"Work started yesterday (June 5) and was completed in the early hours of this morning (June 6). We apologise for any inconvenience caused and will be returning the road to normal as quickly as possible."
