Rubber ducks spotted across Rainham in campaign to highlight pothole plight

The curious sight of a toy duck popping up in puddles has been used to highlight a town's pothole plight.

'Libby' the duck has been seen in various holes across streets in Rainham including Solomon Road, Wakeley Road, Farnham Close and Station Road.

The smiley yellow rubber duck has been floating in the middle of the road as part a campaign to report potholes in the Towns.

People are being encouraged to send pictures of Libby the Duck in potholes near them.

Campaigner Stuart Bourne, from the Liberal Democrats, explained the campaign aims to engage with people and draw greater attention to the issue.

He said: "Our party knows how bad Medway’s roads are, it’s one of the top issues we hear from people on the doorstep.

"But despite the hardwork of our activists like Viv Parker in Horsted, who has done great work to put pressure on the council to fix the many potholes, it feels it’s getting worse and worse. #

"We are asking everyone to post their own pictures of Libby in potholes near them with the hashtag #MedwayDeservesBetter."

You can report potholes directly to Medway Council through their website.

All roads and footways designated "highway" within Medway are on a continuous rolling programme of safety inspections.

The frequency of these inspections are determined according to rules set by the Department of Transport.

Inspections are carried out by highways inspectors and any necessary works are either ordered for repair or passed onto the relevant officer to action.
