Shaunagh Brown is keeping her feet firmly on the ground as she prepares to represent Great Britain in next week’s European junior athletics championships in Novi Sad, Serbia.

Although the Gillingham 19-year-old (pictured)won a discus bronze medal in last year’s Commonwealth Youth Games in India, she knows she will do well to reach the final of the discus in Serbia.

"I am not one of the top ranked competiitors and so my aim is just to throw well and get into a final," she said.

"If I do that I will be happy because, although I won a medal in India, I don’t feel I have ever done myself justice in major championships."

The Black Lion Leisure Centre lifeguard did well enough at last month’s England Under-20 Championships at Bedford, winning both the discus (48.00m) and shot put (13.45) to confirm her selection for Serbia.
