Firefighters were called to three streets in Gillingham last night after children set light to trees, a fence and some rubbish.

A crew from Medway fire station was called to Valley Road at about 4pm to put out three conifer trees that had been set alight.

As firefighters were leaving, they were called to Alexandra Avenue and Carlton Avenue to put out fence and rubbish fires.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "The rubbish and fence fire were small, but the three conifers alight was much bigger. A witness said some children were seen running away from the area."

Kent Police officers are investigating.
