Two arrested after car stopped near M2 Medway motorway bridge

Two men have been arrested after a car, which had been reported stolen, was stopped on the M2 motorway bridge.

Police received a report of a stolen car from Westover Road, Broadstairs at 8.25pm on Tuesday.

The vehicle was stopped on the M2, close to the Medway Bridge just before 9.30pm.

A rolling roadblock was put in place.

Residents in Borstal reported seeing the police helicopter circling their homes.

A 45-year-old woman, who did not wish to be named, said: "The helicopter was circling the bridge for some time.

"It just kept going round and round and was very low in the sky. It happened at about 9.30pm and some of my neighbours also came out came out of their homes to see what was going on as it was so low.

"The noise from it is quite something and it felt like it was meters away from my roof."

Two men from Bedford, aged 34 and 25, have been arrested on suspicion of theft of motor vehicle.

They have both been released pending further inquiries.
