It was the same old story for Gillingham said manager Ady Pennock.
While the Gills were off the mark in attack against Charlton they also once again showed their frailties at the back.
It was the recipe for a 3-0 defeat.

Report: Charlton Athletic 3 Gillingham 0
Pennock said: “They were better than us in both boxes. We weren’t ruthless enough.
“The first goal was the same old, same old, a free header in the box. We gave away a silly free-kick for the second one.
“We did have chances and it was the best we have played for a long time but they were better than us in both boxes.”
The statistics show Gillingham having 18 shots compared to Charlton’s 14 but only three of those were on target and none were good enough to trouble the home keeper.
“We didn’t put the ball away and fair play to them, they did,” Pennock said.
“It got open when we chased it second half but we concede a poor (third) goal and it was game over after that. That next goal at 2-0 was very important but they scored and the game was well over by then.
"We could have scored one or two in the second half. We have to move on.”
McDonald – the hero against Bristol Rovers on Friday – missed several good opportunities.
“It happens,” said the manager.
“He scored two fantastic goals on Friday but it didn’t fall for him on Monday, that’s a striker, you have your good and bad days. He was there to miss them, give him credit for that.
“Our heads didn’t go down, we kept playing and playing and had a lot of chances but we just didn’t put the ball in the net. It was really important to score after half time, had we made it 2-1 that would have made it very interesting.”
