“The league is there for the taking,” claimed Gillingham’s match winner Adam Miller on Saturday.

Miller’s 17th-minute header - his first goal of the season - was enough to beat Macclesfield and the midfielder has no doubts about Gills’ League 2 title credentials.

“A couple of teams slipped up, so that’s a massive boost for us,” he said after the 1-0 victory took Gills to within four points of league leaders Darlington.

“This league is there for the taking, it really is,” he added. “We should be right up there.”

Miller was given the goal at Moss Rose, even though the ball went in off a Macclesfield defender, and he admitted he was delighted to have made an impact.

He said: “I lost my man and it was a free header. My main thought was to get it on target, I got it on target and I think it hit the defender on the line.

“It’s a big thing for me to score my first goal of the season. I would like a few more goals and obviously a few more wins.

“We could have scored more. I hit the post and I thought apart from the 15-minute spell they had in the second half it was a decent away performance.

“It’s such a good feeling to win away from home.”
