Stuart Nelson believes opponents Burton will be under the greater pressure this weekend.
Nigel Clough’s side sit second in League 1 but can still be caught by Walsall and Millwall, having sat top for much of the season.
With Wigan odds-on for the title, Burton are hoping for a result against the Gills to put them within touching distance of a place in the Championship.
The Gills keeper said: “At this stage of the season, everyone drops points, like Burton, who have been on a terrible run. There is so much on these games.
“There will be more pressure on Burton on Saturday. It is in their hands to finish top two and there is a lot of pressure for them to go and do it in front of their own fans.”
Burton’s form, like the Gills, has been poor with last weekend’s win over Colchester their first in seven. It’s the kind of run the Gills hope to end on Saturday.
Defeat to Shrewsbury at Priestfield last weekend made it six without a win but at least they will be boosted by the knowledge that the performance warranted more.
Nelson said: “We can’t do anything about that result, it is three points lost. We are disappointed and hurting but is that going to help us on Saturday?
“We have put that to bed now. The target is to take it into the last game, to give ourselves a chance but it’s not in our hands now. Saturday is all that matters because if we don’t get a result then it might not go to the last game.
“We need to focus on Saturday, no ifs or buts, we don’t need to see other scores, we need a result because we are not in the top six. The job is there.”
