Gillingham midfielder Emmanuel Osadebe wants to finish season in style

Emmanuel Osadebe hopes Gills can now begin to put a disappointing season behind them.

Two wins from their last three games have eased relegation fears and they now have 10 matches left to at least try and finish the season on a high.

Osadebe said: “The boys are all fired up and ready for the fight and we will stay up – 100%.

“We want to finish the season as best we can. It has been a terrible season. The manager left and the results didn’t really change but now we are picking ourselves up and getting better. It is all good now.

“We can’t look back, we have to look forward and finish these last 10 games on a high."

It’s been a hit-and-miss season on a personal note for the midfielder, missing large chunks of the season, but he’s started the last three games.

He said: “I was working hard when I was out of the team and it feels good to be back.

“I wasn’t happy not to be in the team but you just have to do what you can to get back in. We weren’t winning, either, and so that doubled the problem. You feel bad because you can’t do anything to help.”

This is only the second full season in professional football for Osadebe and the battle against the drop will at least be a learning experience for the 20-year-old. He’ll be hoping to now stay involved in the team as he chases a new deal in the summer – not that he’s stressing over it.

He said: “I wake up and do what I love and that gives me enough energy and it feels good.

"I don’t put the stress on myself and I am not worried about anything. What will be will be. I always work hard, I believe in my ability and the aim is to go to the top.”
