Victory over Bristol Rovers on Friday was a much-needed boost for the Gills, said goal-scoring midfielder Josh Wright.
Gillingham went into the Easter period just a point off the drop zone and with just a point from their previous five games.
Wright added another goal to his tally in the win, with Cody McDonald scoring twice late on as they beat Rovers 3-1.
He said: “It’s been a tough, tough season. People might say I have had one of my best seasons, in terms of goals.
“But I reiterate it all the time, if you don’t win football games it ruins you, it ruins your week, your month or your year, it’s our livelihoods and it means everything to us, all of us, the fans as well.

Relief for the Gills boss after victory
Pennock: It was something special
“It has been frustrating. It’s our jobs and our lives and to get that win after such a tough time is fantastic.
“You could use many words and it was probably relief more than anything. It was a gutsy performance, we dug in and got our just rewards with the goals.”
Wright put the Gills 1-0 up but Rovers levelled 10 minutes later from the penalty spot. McDonald was the goal hero late on.
“We all know what he (Cody) can do on his day and he took those goals fantastically well,” said Wright.
“We are delighted, we’re buzzing and the biggest thing is that it’s a weight off our shoulders.
“I said to the lads before the game if we could get a win it would be massive for our confidence, that buzz going into Monday’s game (against Charlton), especially with all of the results going our way, it’s fantastic."
