Cathedral appeal hits £9m

The Save Canterbury Cathedral Appeal has hit the £9million mark.

But the appeal – which was launched in 2006 – still has another £41million to generate as its aims for its target of £50million.

Matthew Butler, the chief executive of the fund, said: “We have seen a tremendous response to the appeal in the last year, particularly when considering the current economic climate.

“We have continued to be delighted by the generosity of the people of Kent who have donated money, run events or volunteered their time.

“There is still a long way to go and we have much planned for the next few years to ensure we secure these donations.”

The next fund-raising event will be a Christmas Concert in the nave of the Cathedral on Saturday, December 13.

A Baroque Christmas will feature many popular and familiar classical Christmas pieces by the English National Opera and the choir, The Sixteen.

Tickets are £10 and can be bought by ringing 01227 464764 or by going into the appeal office at 27-28 Burgate.
