A former Kent University student has started a 40-mile pilgrimage to raise money for the MS Society.

Clare Debenham, 29, is walking from Rochester Cathedral to Canterbury Cathedral and will follow sections of the Pilgrims’ Way.

She set off on Tuesday with her backpack, map, compass and much needed bacon roll.

Clare is due to reach Canterbury on Thursday and will be joined by her dad Alan for parts of the route.

Clare said: “I am staying in B&Bs overnight.

"By the end of day two I should reach Boughton and set off from there on Thursday morning and reach Canterbury by lunchtime.”

Clare, who until recently worked for the Home Office, now lives in Kings Langley near Watford and is also planning to walk the entire length of the route between Southwark and Canterbury next year.
