Earrings sale boost charity's coffers

A pair of diamond earrings donated to a Tenterden charity shop have been sold for £1,000.

The earrings were given to the British Red Cross shop in Sayers Lane.

Avril Cadd, assistant shop manager, said: “An elderly lady came in to the shop and presented these earrings to me saying that they had once belonged to her mother-in-law and that both her and her husband wanted to donate them to the British Red Cross.

“She also mentioned that they had been valued in the 1970s as worth £500 but didn’t think they would be worth that much these days.

“We know nothing else about her, but if she is reading - thank you very much for your generous donation.”

It wasn’t long before the earrings were snapped up.

Ms Cadd said: “A regular customer with an eye for expensive jewellery spotted them later in the week and paid £1,000 for the pair.”
