Help save a child's life

Collections outside supermarkets in Canterbury will mark Save the Children Week which begins on Sunday.

Volunteers will be at Sainsbury’s, Asda and Morrisons and will also be in the city’s main shopping area on Saturday, May 3.

This year four Canterbury restaurants will add an optional amount of money to every food bill during the week with diners’ permission which will be donated to the charity.

They are the Granville, at Street End, Lower Hardres; Carmen’s of Canterbury, in Sun Street; Little Italy in St Peter’s Street and Posillipo in The Borough.

All money raised during the week will go towards Save the Children’s largest campaign to show how simple it is to save a child’s life.

About 10 million children die before their fifth birthday every year and most die from preventable illnesses such as malaria and diarrhoea, when rehydration salts and mosquito nets – which cost just a few pounds – will keep them alive.
