New shop will help support charity's work

Mental health charity Thanet MIND officially opened its new shop in Northdown Road, Cliftonville, on Monday.

Volunteers were preparing the stock last week at the end of a month-long programme to redecorate the premises.

The shop, which offers clothing and an extensive array of bric-a-brac, is set to become a mecca for local bargain hunters.

Meanwhile, organisers are hoping more volunteers will come forward and join a rota of people willing to help run the shop.

Thanet MIND manager Mary Chambers said: “This is a new venture for us which will run alongside our Gateway Project at Northdown Park. Not only will the shop help raise funds, but also the profile of mental health in general.

“The shop is more than a general charity shop as it helps us in the recovery philosophy of mental health, and helping people back into paid employment or voluntary work.”

Anybody who wishes to volunteer in the shop or donate items for sale can call 07962 571545.
