The winning teacher’s school will be granted a UN Day involving a simulation exercise prepared and delivered by the School of Politics and International Relations at the University of Kent.

Professor Ruth Blakeley of the university said: “The School is delighted to be supporting the award for Kent Teacher of the Year in politics and citizenship.

“Studying politics is extremely helpful for getting behind the news headlines and thinking about the stories behind very pressing questions such as migration, terrorism, and the future of the UK’s presence in the European Union.”

The University of Kent is a key partner of the awards which are organised by the KM Group’s charity division. The ambassadors from the schools of politics, maths, physics, foreign language, history and biosciences will take a seat at the judging panel to select 2016’s winners.

Community partners backing the Kent Teacher of the Year Awards 2016 include Project Salus, Medway Council, Kent County Council, CXK, Kreston Reeves, Loop CR Ltd, Three R’s Teacher Recruitment, Canterbury Christ Church University, Social Enterprise Kent, Kent Sport and Physical Activity Service, SELT, Leeds Castle and the Marlowe Theatre.
