The KM media group is aiming to break the record for the biggest charity quiz night ever held in the county town and is inviting those involved with walk to school schemes in the county to enter teams.

Tickets for Big Quiz 2008 are now on sale and are expected to sell out fast, so quiz-goers are advised to get their teams organised as quickly as possible to avoid disappointment.

The quiz will take place at Folkestone Sports Centre, Radnor Park Avenue, Folkestone from 7pm on Saturday, October 25, and tickets can be bought using a credit or debit card from the website www.kmbigquiz.co.uk

Proceeds raised on the night will be divided four ways with children's road safety charity Kent Walking Bus, south Kent cause Find a Voice and Folkestone Sports Centre Trust Friends all receiving a quarter share of proceeds. The civic charities from Ashford and Shepway will share the remaining proceeds.

The cost for a table of eight people is £56, which is £7 per person and includes a ploughman's meal and a complimentary glass of wine in the price. Teams can receive a discount if they book early online at www.kmbigquiz.co.uk

The 2007 south Kent event attracted a record 84 teams and event organisers are keen to match last year's performance.

Simon Dolby,Kent Messenger Community and Charity Projects' Manager and chairman of the Walking Bus charity, will be questionmaster at the charity event. He said the evening would appeal to the serious quiz-goer as well as groups just there for a fun night out.

Mr Dolby said: "Questions will be carefully selected to ensure everyone enjoys themselves.

"There will be a mix of easy ones to appeal to the quiz novices, as well as a number of tougher brain-teasers to guarantee the eventual winner has earned it!"

He stressed that the KM Big Quiz was a team event and that individuals would not have a spotlight turned on them and be asked to answer questions.

A number of sponsors have already agreed to support the KM Big Quiz with the Folkestone Sports Centre providing the venue for free, County Square shopping centre agreeing to be a main sponsor of the night, P&O Ferries donating vouchers for all eight members of the winning team to take a car and up to nine passengers to France for an extended trip. Shepherd Neame will organise the charity Spitfire bar.

One of the beneficiaries from the evening is also providing expertise to ensure it is a success. Staff and volunteers from the KM Walk to School team will take the lead in organising the evening.

The top teams from the evening will be invited to a county final to take on the winners from the KM Big Quiz events held at Canterbury, Maidstone and Medway later this year. This is expected to be held in December and will be organised in conjunction with Kent brewer Shepherd Neame.

Mr Dolby said: "We are keen to hear from other companies interested in sponsoring this event, either by providing prizes for the winners on the night, or by sponsoring quiz rounds."

Readers booking their table online at www.kmbigquiz.co.uk before noon on Sunday, August 31 will pay £52 instead of £56.

To have a quiz round named after your business or organisation costs a minimum of £100 in sponsorship. For information call Mr Dolby on 07989 164 752.
