PUPILS and teachers at Senacre Technology College in Maidstone have raised more than £500 for the Mid Kent Breast Cancer Research appeal.

The fund-raising efforts, organised by teacher Helen Porter's class last summer, included a 650mt sponsored swim by teaching assistant Jackie Peters and a 50 lap run around the school playing field by maths teacher Tim Richardson-Perks.

A group of students from the school, in Sutton Road, also baked cakes and sold them for the appeal, bringing the total to £547.

Pupils Vicky Whitfield and Hannah Clough visited Maidstone Hospital where they handed over a cheque to one of the charity's trustees, consultant surgeon Peter Jones.
