Builder Steve Haughan will need to be at his fittest when he tackles the gruelling Borneo summit to sea challenge in September in aid of The Princes Trust charity.

From mountain to beach, rainforest to raging rivers, the 42-year-old from Westbrook, Margate, will journey through the heart of the tropical island from the top of Mount Kinabalu to the shores of the South China Sea.

The gruelling trek between September 20-29 is only possible if he raises a minimum sponsorship for the Trust of £3,100 and he is calling on businesses and individuals to back his fund raising efforts.

On Saturday, July 12, a fund raising disco with a good range of raffle prizes is being held at The Westbrook Club, Canterbury Road, Westbrook, from 8pm.

Steve is well aware of the effective work of the Trust and has worked with underprivileged children, taking them on climbing and camping trips to Wales, Scotland and the French Alps.

He said: “I came from an underprivileged background in Londoon as a child and went to a local community clubs which helped me a great deal. I returned there as a volunteer helper and am keen to do what I can to continue the excellent work of organisations like The Princes Trust.

“I have received really positive support from businesses and individuals. There are some other fund raising events planned in the coming weeks, some involving The Westbrook Club which has been a great supporter.”
