No escape for Kent holiday firm

Kent Escapes, the company that brought package holidays back to Kent's International Airport at Manston, has gone out of business.

The firm, run by Seguro Travel Limited, began its passenger services in 2006, the year after the low-budget airline EUjet stopped flying.

This summer it ran Friday flights to Majorca and Tuesday flights to Gran Canaria.

Seguro's website said the directors deeply regret the closure of the business and blamed it on the failure of Futura Airlines which stopped trading at the weekend. The Spanish air firm ran Seguro's flights.

Customers were advised to contact their travel agent, the Air Travel Organisations' Licensing body Atol or the Civil Aviation Authority for further advice.

Seguro Travel was based in Macclesfield, Cheshire. It operated air package holidays and flights out of Glasgow and Prestwick as well as Manston to Spain, the Canary Islands and Portugal and sold mainly through travel agents.

The CAA was making arrangements to ensure Seguro holidaymakers could remain in their holiday accommodation and that other airlines would bring them home on schedule.

EUjet’s dramatic collapse left many thousands of passengers stranded across Europe and led to the sale of the airport.

It was hoped that Kent Escapes would represent a turning point.

Other holidays out of Manston are not affected. Bookings through the KM Group's travel business, Headline Travel, are run by Newmarket Travel and are operating normally.
