Man, 72, from Lydd, accused of sexually touching boy in car in Cheriton, Folkestone

A 72-year-old man stands accused of sexually touching a boy in a car after asking the youngster for directions.

Nigel Hawkins, from Lydd, is due to appear in court following an incident on Saturday.

Police were called to a report that a boy had been approached in Cheriton, Folkestone, and “got into a vehicle to assist with directions to a location before the incident took place”.

Officers attended and, following enquiries, made an arrest just over an hour later.

Hawkins was charged the following day with sexually touching a boy, and breaching a sexual risk order.

He appeared at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, where he was remanded in custody.

The case will next be heard at Canterbury Crown Court on Monday, July 10.
