Scott Porter is planning big changes at Lydd Town over the summer.

The Lydders have fallen short of the Southern Counties East Premier Division play-offs.

Eighth is the best they can manage after losing 4-0 at home to promotion-chasing Glebe at the weekend.

They complete the season at VCD this Saturday (3pm), after which Porter will put his plan into action.

“I can’t wait to get the season over and done with,” he said.

“I need to make a lot of changes and that’s a conversation I need to have with the club.

“We need changes in personnel, commitment, organisation, attitude - everything’s got to change if we want to compete with the top teams in the league next season.

“We’ve got to have good recruitment in the summer and I know the areas we need to strengthen.

“We need the right personnel and a game plan for every single game in this league, not people going out doing individual things.

“They’ve got to take notice of what the coaching staff are saying and how we want to set up and play.

“It’s been a wake-up call for a lot of the players because they’ve come from the league above and I’ve always said what a hard league this is to get out of.

“You’ve got good sides, energetic youngsters and more and more money being put into it.

“I’ve got out of it twice, with Hythe and Whitstable, and it’s a tough old season.

“I look at Deal, who’ve won the league, and they remind me of what we had at Hythe and Whitstable - a good core who’ve been together a long time, playing the SCEFL League way.

“It’s pointless overplaying. That’s what we did against Glebe and we got punished. You can keep the ball as much as you want but that’s not the way I want to do things.

“Deal won this league by going back to front as quick as they can and when the ball travels, they travel as well.

“You’ve got to work hard with and without the ball and it’s so effective.

“You’ve got lads on our pitch trying to play football when it takes five touches to get the ball under control.”
