Relay and discus competitions - but you must be over 80!

Forget Beijing and London 2012 - all the sporting action could be seen at the Wayfarers care centre in Sandwich.

Age proved no barrier to taking part as the elderly residents competed in sports like discus throwing, egg and spoon and wheelchair relay with rosettes for the winners.

One, 99-year-old Fred Bean, said: “I felt like a young man again and I don’t want the day to end.”

Nellie Hurcombe said after winning the egg and spoon race: “I have had my warm-up and am ready for the Olympics now.”
