Chevening cottage fire

Thirty fire fighters are tackling a blaze at a thatched cottage.

Five people are being treated at the scene in Chevening near Sevenoaks after breathing in smoke.

Six fire engines, including on from London Fire Brigade, and a command support unit are in attendance at Chevening Cross Road.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service said two crews will soon leave.

The cause of the fire is not known at this time.

Crews are using specialist equipment including a fog spike and coldcut firefighting system to extinguish the fire, which started around 7.30am.

This allows crews to pierce small holes into the structure of a property to deliver water into the inside of compartments, rooms or voids within a buildings.

It creates a super-fine misting effect which can dramatically reduce the temperature and spread of a fire.

Sundridge Road is closed between Star Hill Road and Chevening Road while emergency services deal with the fire.

Motorists are being asked to use alternative routes.
