Man held after jewellers store raid

POLICE have arrested a man in connection with a burglary at a jewellers in a Kent town centre.

The burglary took place at around 4.10pm yesterday afternoon at Payne's jewellers in Sevenoaks High Street.

A blue car with four masked men pulled up outside the shop. Three of the men got out of the car and while one was at the shop door the other two smashed the window with a drain cover and stole items from the display.

The gang was able to get away in the car, despite it being damaged by a group of men working nearby who tried to stop it.

A 48-year-old man was arrested after officers traced the car to New Haven. He is currently in police custody.
