Motobility scooter rider in crash tragedy

KENT Police are investigating a crash which claimed the life of a man on a motobility scooter.

The tragedy happened shortly before midday on Saturday in Sevenoaks Road, Otford, near Sevenoaks, at the junction with Warham Road.

Police say it involved a white Vauxhall van, being driven by a man travelling from the direction of Sevenoaks towards Otford and a silver motobility scooter being ridden by a local man on the pavement.

A police spokeswoman said: "For reasons as yet undetermined, the rider of the scooter crossed the road directly into the path of the oncoming van and a collision occurred.

"The rider of the scooter suffered fatal injuries. His family have been informed, as has the coroner’s office." The victim has not yet been named.

The road was closed while emergency services serious collision investigation unit dealt with the incident. The road reopened shortly after 3.45pm.
