Youngsters got into the festive spirit at the first in a series of lantern-making workshops.

Members of Big Fish Arts hosted the session at Restoration Youth in Sheerness on Saturday.

About 12 people went along and had help making decorations out of tissue paper and willow withies – a strong flexible stem.

Another workshop will be held at the same venue in Trinity Road, on Saturday, from 11am to 1pm.

They are for the lantern parade which will take place in the town on Saturday, December 7, leaving Beachfields Park in Sheerness at 4pm, making its way through the town and to the clock tower, where there will be music and refreshments.

Big Fish is also holding sessions with schools and youth groups so it is hoped there will be lots of lights in the procession.

Member Chris Reed said: “It was great fun. It should be a really festive day as there’s lots going on in the town.”
