Other drivers were also stopped as part of a pro-active police campaign across the Swale, Medway, Dartford and Gravesend areas to crack down on motorists driving unsafe vehicles, or while under the influence of drink or drugs.

On a single night, last Friday, nine traffic offences were issued to drivers in Halfway Road, Minster. Eight were for speeding and one for having bald tyres.

Three stop searches were carried out, with the assistance of a police dog. Officers found a small quantity of cannabis on one person who was given a verbal warning at the roadside.

The operation will continue until Christmas.

Meanwhile Mr Christopher is to appear before Medway Magistrates Court on Wednesday, November 23.
