At around 7pm six fire engines were sent to the scene of the grassroots football club based on the Isle of Sheppey.

Crews wore breathing equipment whilst extinguishing the blaze and stopped the flames from spreading further.

They also managed to save a wooden pavilion from being severely damaged.

Residents nearby were told to close windows and doors due to the billowing smoke.

The fire service confirmed crews left the scene at around 10pm.

A spokesperson said: “It's believed the blaze was caused accidentally when a bonfire spread to two containers and two sheds at the premises.

“No injuries were reported.”

AFC Minster have been contacted for comment.
