Southern Water has restored Sheppey's mains supply after more than 24 hours

Most Sheppey residents' water supply has returned to normal after nearly 36 hours.

It comes after more than 1,000 households woke-up to dry taps yesterday morning.

Today, people in Minster, Eastchurch, Lesydown and Warden Bay were still reporting they had either no water or just a trickle coming from the pipes.

This afternoon, Southern Water said it was continuing to work round the clock to ensure water pressure is brought back to normal.

In a statement it said: "Some customers may experience discolouration of their water or air in their supply, when the water returns. Please be advised neither are a cause for concern and we advise that you should run your tap until it clears."

It added bottled water is still available at Morrisons carpark in Neats Court, Queenborough.

But traffic delays caused by Monday's burst water main on the A249 persist, with final checks following repairs unlikely to be completed for several days.

Southern Water has further advised that anyone without water should call its help line on 0330 3030368.
