A pervert who filmed his brutal sex attack on a woman as he watched a porn film showing rape has been jailed for life.

A jury was forced to watch the film showing Victor Akulic committing oral rape with his victim.

The former soldier, of Alexandra Road, Sheerness, denied rape, assault causing actual bodily harm, common assault and intimidation, but was convicted.

Maidstone Crown Court heard Akulic had been drinking heavily when he launched the attack on the woman in Sheppey in August last year.

The 43-year-old was told by a judge: "The film you made of your committing this offence of rape was shown not once, but twice to the jury.

"She had to watch it. She must have felt utterly humiliated. She was certainly visibly distressed.

"You created a DVD because you filmed your own rape, holding the camera while you had this sexual encounter with the victim.

"It took several minutes while you zoomed in and out. In the background you set up for your own pleasure another DVD to watch while you raped her - a DVD of a man committing rape on a woman.

"This court had to watch that injured and bruised woman being forced to perform oral sex on you. It is an experience that few people will forget.

"The photographs of the woman are also unforgettable. They are horrific. Anybody who has to assess the seriousness of this case cannot do so without seeing what that woman looked like as you raped her.

"Black eyes, bruises, not only on her face, shoulder, arms and legs - all over. It demonstrates how depraved you are."

Judge Martin Joy ordered Akulic, originally from Lithuania, to serve a minimum of eight-and-a-half years before he will be considered for parole.

Had he passed a determinate sentence, he said, it would have been 17 years.

It was then revealed that he had served an eight-year jail sentence in Lithuania for committing a similar sexual offence with an eight-year-old girl, as well as seven years for grievous bodily harm.

Judge Joy said Akulic would not be released until the authorities were satisfied he was no longer a risk to the public. He will be on licence for life.

Catherine Purnell, defending, said Akulic saw 'some bad things' in the Red Army in Afghanistan during the Russian conflict.

Submitting that a determinate sentence could be imposed, she said: "This is not a man who drags women at random off the street. He is not a danger to members of the public in that way."

She said Akulic expected to eventually be moved to a Lithuanian prison.

Judge Joy said the woman was 'horribly disfigured' and in pain from the beating Akulic had given her during the rape.

He was arrested but within minutes of being released on bail he intimidated her. "She must have been absolutely terrified," said the judge.

He told Akulic: "You present a serious and significant risk to the public of death or serious injury."
