Police have arrested a man on suspicion of armed robbery after a man was stabbed in the stomach in an alleyway in Sheerness.

The victim, who is in his 40s, suffered serious injuries after being knifed while he walked between Granville Road and Harris Road.

His Blackberry phone was stolen by a man described as very tall with an Eastern European accent.

The attacker was also wearing a dark hooded top with a scarf covering his face.

Following the incident, which happened at around 9.35pm on October 9, the victim was taken to King’s College Hospital in London and treated for injuries to his stomach.

A 43-year-old Sheerness man has been bailed pending further inquiries until February.

Investigating officer Det Con Iain Joyce said: “This was a very serious incident and the victim was fortunate to escape with his life.

“We have been following up a number of lines of enquiry and a great deal of community intelligence in the weeks since the incident. However, now we have made an arrest, we are in a position to appeal for more information.”
