School still waiting for safety sign

An interactive safety sign which was supposed to be installed outside a school last month has not materialised.

In February, we reported that Kent Highways had promised the warning sign outside Eastchurch primary's new St Clement's site in Leysdown Road by March.

Although there are now some temporary road signs, the promised sign has not arrived, even though children have returned to school this week.

The temporary signs warn drivers there is a school there and state the speed limit is 40mph.

But parents and councillors still have serious concerns about the speed of traffic outside the building and they want the limit reduced to 30mph.

Cllr Pat Sandle said people were now parking the right way round in the lay-by opposite the school but it was always full up and people were parking on the road, too.

She added: "They have put some temporary signs up which has made it a bit clearer but we haven't got the flashing sign yet which we were promised.

"It's better than nothing but it's still not good enough."

A Kent Highways spokesman said there had been a delay in acquiring the interactive sign.

It was due to be installed some time this week.
