Firefighters rescue teenager stuck in muddy ditch in Sheerness

Firefighters rescued a 15-year-old boy who was stuck in some mud up to his knees.

The teenager had tried to ‘jump over a muddy ditch’ in the marshes adjacent to Hartlip Close in Sheerness yesterday evening.

After around 15 minutes, his friend called the fire service at around 6.15pm for help when he realised he could not get out on his own.

One fire engine and a water safety unit from Sheerness were sent to the scene.

Luckily the boy was not injured in the ordeal.

Firefighter Andrew Friday said: “The young boy was in the muddy ditch for around 40 minutes before we got him out.

“The boy and his mates were in the marshes and he’d tried to jump the ditch but fell in.

“We prized him out fairly easily and he walked away without any injuries.

“He was just very embarrassed by what had happened.”

The rescue mission lasted around 45 minutes.
