Frustrated passengers commuting from work were facing long delays after a power failure brought railway services to a halt.

Southeastern services were unable to run between Sittingbourne and Faversham due to a fault with the barriers at the level crossing at Teynham.

The line was blocked in both directions, however, by 6pm this evening (April 17) it was reopened.

At around 5.30pm, engineers were en route to investigate the failure, restore power and reopen the crossing.

Speaking earlier, a spokesperson said: “Once on site, they will work to establish whether it will be safe for us to run across the crossing at a reduced speed while they carry out the necessary repairs.

“Please allow extra time to complete your journey with us today.”

By 6pm, Southeastern informed customers its response team had fixed the fault and trains were able to run through the area at their normal speed.

However, there were still delays as trains were either cancelled and revised while Southeastern worked to return the schedule.

Disruption was expected until around 8pm and by 8.30pm, trains were no longer affected.
