Fly tippers have been blasted for leaving a huge pile of rubbish at a notorious dumping spot.
A mound of discarded furniture and a litany of industrial waste including used paint tins and carpets was left in a quiet lane off Old Ferry Road in Iwade.
The remote area has been targeted by vandals in the past, leading to a plea for vigilance from the public to ensure the perpetrators are caught.
Cllr Ben Stokes, Conservative member for Iwade and Lower Halstow, said: “I’ve seen the rubbish for myself and it looks like the work of cowboy builders.
“It’s at an entrance to a farmer’s field, an area where waste is usually tipped because it’s quite remote and quiet.”
Cllr Stokes said a member of the public informed him of the latest case of illegal waste disposal.
He said he had contacted a member of Swale council’s environment team who promised it would be cleared last week.
He said the cost of installing CCTV cameras at the site would prove too expensive as a deterrent to would-be tippers.
As an alternative, he’s called for residents to contact the relevant authorities should they see waste being dumped.
He said: “If anybody spots someone fly tipping, take a note of their number plate and call either the police or the council.”
