Traffic delays on M2 between Sittingbourne and Gillingham after crash

Rush hour drivers are facing long delays on the M2 and A249 this evening after an earlier lorry crash.

The HGV, thought to be a car transporter, is believed to have crashed into the central reservation of the coast-bound stretch just after junction 5 for Sittingbourne.

The smash left debris strewn across the carriageway, forcing emergency crews to shut it completely for a short time at 4.45pm.

One lane of two remains closed as emergency crews work to clear the debris from the road and carry out emergency repairs to the barrier.

As a result, traffic is stretching back as far as junction 3 for Chatham. There are also queues on the Sittingbourne-bound A249 caused by traffic attempting to join the M2 at junction 5 at Stockbury.

The driver is not thought to have suffered serious injuries in the crash and has been taken to hospital.
